City Attorney Bio
V. Lynn Whitfield has served as the City Attorney for Hallandale Beach since December, 2012. She is a graduate of University of Miami School of Law and has practiced in the tri-county area for over thirty years.
The majority of her legal career has been spent in the public sector having served as an Assistant State Attorney; Assistant Public Defender; Assistant City Attorney for the City of West Palm Beach; City Attorney for the City of Pahokee and North Miami.
Ms. Whitfield is a very experienced trial attorney and was the Chief Litigator for the City of West Palm Beach.
In addition she has appeared as a legal commentator for an ABC affiliate station and PBS. She has lectured to national, state and local organizations. She is a trained National Institute of Trial Advocacy Instructor.
Ms. Whitfield has held many leadership roles in legal organizations including the Presidency of the Craig S. Barnard American Inns of Court; Palm Beach Criminal Defense Lawyers Association; Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association; F. Malcolm Cunningham Sr. Bar Association; Past Director of Palm Beach County Bar Association and Past Chair of Gulfstream Goodwill Industries.
The City Attorney’s office provides in-house legal advice to the City Commission, City Manager and all City departments and represents the City in a variety of legal proceedings. The City Attorney's Office cannot represent members of the community in legal matters.
